Sub-brands

Sub-brand logo usage — print

There are many sub-brands of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution that have their own identity. To maintain the relationship between a sub-brand and the parent WHOI brand, the next few pages illustrate the proper balance and placement of both a sub-brand logo and the WHOI logo on various materials.

Materials created for a sub-brand can focus on its own identity but should always reference the parent WHOI brand in a subtle way. The three examples on this page show how the WHOI logo can be featured within a sub-brand’s printed letterhead.

  1. dark blue footer
The white Single Line logo may be placed on a dark blue (Pantone 282) bar as a footer. The logo itself may be aligned on the left or right side, depending on the placement of the sub-brand logo.
  2. dark blue masthead
The white Single Line logo may be placed on a dark blue (Pantone 282) bar as a masthead. The logo itself may be aligned on the left or right side, depending on the placement of the sub-brand logo.
  3. floating logo at the bottom
The full color logo may be placed at the bottom of the page on its own. The logo itself may be aligned on the left or right side, depending on the placement of the sub-brand logo.

Sub-brand logo usage — web

This page shows how the WHOI logo should be featured on a sub-brand’s website. There are three acceptable color versions. Care should be taken in choosing the version that fits best with the overall color of the sub-brand’s website.

  1. dark blue masthead with white logo
The white Single Line logo may be placed on a dark blue (Pantone 282) bar as a masthead at the top of the website. It should be left aligned and be present on every page of the website.
  2. bright blue masthead with white logo
The white Single Line logo may be placed on a bright blue (Pantone 2995) bar as a masthead at the top of the website. It should be left aligned and be present on every page of the website.
  3. dark blue masthead with color icon
The Single Line logo with full color icon may be placed on a dark blue (Pantone 282) bar as a masthead at the top of the website. It should be left aligned and be present on every page of the website.

Department/Lab Logo Lockups

There are many departments/labs within the WHOI organization. Each should be identified within our brand with customized logo lockups. The logo lockups shown on this page feature a range of shorter to longer named departments/labs. While some are identified with an acronym within the WHOI community, the full name of the department/lab should always be spelled out within the logo lockup. The logo lockups should only be reproduced in dark blue (Pantone 282) or white. The name of the department/lab should be the only element within the logo lockup that is changed. Font weights, colors, and the divider rule should never be altered.
