Responsive logo system

The responsive logo system is comprised of multiple versions of the WHOI logo. This flexible system allows the logo to accommodate and adapt to where it is placed, and to appear in its most legible form for the application.

  1. Primary Logo
The Primary logo should be used whenever possible, without compromising its legibility.
  2. Acronym Logo
The Acronym logo may be used on applications where the allowable space is minimal and the Primary logo would be illegible. Examples include the mobile website, mobile apps, and small space footers. The Acronym logo may also be used in other materials and merchandise so long as the full wordmark is spelled out elsewhere, or the Primary logo is used, on the same piece. Examples include hats, t-shirts, and PowerPoint slides.
  3. Single Line Logo
The Single Line logo should only be used on applications where the allowable space is short in height, yet wide, and the Primary logo would be illegible. Examples include ink pens, sub-brand website mastheads, and other small spaces.
  4. Tagline Logo
The Tagline logo may be used on applications where reinforcement of the tagline is appropriate. This version should not be used on materials where the tagline is already stated or used as a larger design treatment elsewhere on the page.
  5. Wordmark
The wordmark may be used in certain applications when the icon is used separately as a design element. For example, the icon on the front of a t-shirt and the wordmark on the sleeve.
  6. Icon
The Icon may be used as a design element, on its own, for applications where the full Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution name is implied. Examples include using the icon as a large graphical element on a poster or brochure or as a profile picture on social media.
